Fought October 3, 1594, the Battle of Glenlivet is considered a religious conflict between the Catholic and Protestant forces.
Attempting to unify Scotland, James VI of Scotland issued a decree of 12th November 1593, ordering Catholics to resign their faith or depart the country. The Catholic forces of the George Gordon, 2nd Marquess of Huntly and the Earl of Errol defeated the Protestant forces of the Earl of Argyll.
