Macleans of Dochgarroch

The House of Dochgarroch is the eighth senior cadet branch of the Clan Maclean. The Dochgarroch Chieftains trace their lineage to John Dubh mac Gillemore, 4th Chief of the the Duart Branch of the Clan Maclean. After the Scottish Crown annexed the Lordship of the Isles, the MacGilleans of Urquhart lost the Constableship of Urquhart Castle, and At present Very Reverend Alan Maclean is the 16th is the Chieftain of the Macleans of Ardgour and 21st Chief of Clan Terlach.

Dochgarroch lies at the head of Loch Ness and its name in Scots Gaelic, Dabhach Gairbheach means Davoch of Rough Place.
